IGA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has made a large-scale project and opened the Istanbul Airport Library. The airport library, which has more than 2,000 works, was opened by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. The library, which also has a children's playground, serves as a nice resting place. A total of 2550 works, including 1350 literature, 500 children, 150 English, 50 magazines, and 500 Nobel Prize-winning literary works, are waiting for the airport passengers.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy made a speech after the opening and he said these: “We have imagined and designed many projects with the airport board and CEO one year before the opening of the airport. Our primary goal was to introduce Turkey to the passengers who came to Istanbul but will go to another city of the world without entering Istanbul.
In this context, since the first-day airport opened, especially in the free zone, we started an intense introduction of the natural and cultural richness of Turkey, its beaches, and its sun. We continue with the library concept which is applied for the first time in the world in order to add value to our passengers who love to read on the domestic line and who want to read and evaluate their time at the airport.
Passengers can read the book and leave it there or they can take the book with them and deliver it to any libraries of the city, which you landed, in Turkey. With this, we give the passengers an opportunity to read the book to the end at the flight without getting bored.”
In the library at the free lounge, which is at the floor of Istanbul Airport Domestic Departures, domestic flight passengers in the library need to be a member to borrow books. Passengers can deliver these books to the Book Return Box which will be placed at the exit of Istanbul Airport Incoming Passenger Section, but the passengers, who want to stay longer with their books, may deliver the book to any libraries in Turkey. Library of Airport will provide service with 6 Ministry personnel between 6:30 am and 11:30 pm.
